Biography
Argentina, 1974. Lives in Barcelona.
Diego Ballestrasse studied architecture at the University of Buenos Aires (non-graduate), and photography in Barcelona at the EASD Serra i Abella and Centro de Fotografía Documental, among others.
He has shown his work at different art venues in Europa and Argentina, as well as presenting his work at different fairs such Swab Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair 2020/21. Buenos Aires Photo 2020, EXTRA FORT Talks at Recyclart (BE) and ViSiONA-Programa de la Imagen de Huesca (ES). His work has been published in several platforms such as ARCHIVO, Camera Austria, Der Greif, PHmuseum and STILL Magazine.
Diego won different awards such as "Authors in Selection" Fotonoviembre 2017 and "Otra manera de contar" at Pa-ta-ta Festival’16. He was a finalist in Descubrimientos PhotoEspaña'09/16, SCAN Full Contact'16 (ES), Grand Prix Fotofestiwal Portfolio Review'17 (PL) and BUP Book Award 2021 (PL).
In 2019, he won the Grant ON MEDIATION 6. Platform on curatorship and research (Art Globalization Interculturality-Universitat de Barcelona), co-curating “Esc-Out: deviations of artistic practices in the public sphere” at Fabra i Coats - Centre d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona.
During 2019-2020 Diego has been one of the artists of the 3rd Cycle of PARALLEL European Photo Based Platform. Within this framework he has shown La cuarta pared at Robert Capa Center (Budapest, 2019) and his work El tercer viaje a Chapelco (2020) developed during the program, at Landskrona Photo 2020 (Landskrona, SE) and Extended Atlas-Parallel Review (Lisbon, 2021).
La cuarta pared (2015-2022) has been exhibited in different stages of development being presented as a work «in progress». Some of the venues where it was presented are Museo Municipal de Bellas Artes (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 2017) Espai Souvenir (Barcelona, 2018), Granada Gallery de (Buenos Aires, 2019), Espace Jörg Brockmann (Geneva, 2020), Galerie Sit Down (Paris, 2021) y Ana Mas Projects (curated by Frederic Montornés, Barcelona, 2021).
Recently, La cuarta pared has being shown at the Sala Kursala of the Universidad de Cádiz, cutared by Jesús Micó. The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication that compiles 7 years of work.
